I this a wagon or a hatchback? I don't know how to tell anyone.

These things are total sleepers. I heard it does 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds!

There might be six production Honda passenger cars ev er sold in the US that can do 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds or faster. CR-V is not even close.

Per Torchinsky. I think these rules are perfectly reasonable. And they mae the CRV a wagon.

I’m sticking with the idea that most small/medium crossovers are hatchbacks because the cargo area is shorter than the rear seat (alternatively, the distance from pillars C to D is shorter than from B to C).

I just saw a brown, manual, diesel, Mondeo estate/ wagon. Isn't that exciting?

It’s all in the roofline. It’s about 1/3 wagons, 2/3 hatches in the crossover scene right now I think.

7.4 seconds on these . So, with a tune....

There really needs to be another rule stipulating the length of the cargo area. If the cargo area is not roughly the same length as one of the doors, it’s a hatch. Wagons are long, hatches are just short wagons.
Basically if Blue is greater than or equal to R ed, it’s a wagon. If Blue is less than Red, it’s a hatchback.

When it comes to crossover vs wagon there’s a simple rule of thumb; a wagon has a sedan or hatch equivalent. A crossover does not, or at least not one that’s virtually identical from the B pillars forward.
So, the CR-V is not a wagon. It’s either a hatchback or a ‘fat hatchback’ (=crossover). I think it’s clear it’s the latter.
Your rule is problematic for small wagons. Example, the subcompact Renault Clio. Here’s the wagon:
For reference, the hatch version:
The wagon is the same car as the hatch, but with a longer cargo area. The cargo area is still short from an absolute point of view, but it’s much longer than in the hatch.

A hatch isn’t just a shorter wagon. Liftbacks are hatches. You can’t just stretch them and have a wagon. It’s all in the pillars. Wagons have 4, Hatches have 3.

The tricky part with that approach is that all these overly- raked rear wagon windows (coughAudi) would virtually make them hatchbacks, which doesn’t quite feel right.

I flushed that round the S bend this morning with a few sheets of toilet paper.
How did you find it?

Clearly you have not seen Hondo yota Car Bro’s awesome CR -V.

True, but I feel like a tiny little itty bitty rear quarter window doesn’t count, like on the CRV OP was talking about.

CRV is more of a crossover. Insurance probably calls it a station wagon. But insurance also called my 2 door ‘07 Wrangler a station wagon...
Brown wagon:
And even this could almost be considered a crossover.

Love me some Eagle. Best Crossover.
